28.7.08 Wallyblog-A Sad Sad Day for My Home Town :-(

Hello everyone,
Well today was a terrible day. You see, in Weston Super Mare the best thing we had was a wonderful old pier , the Grand Pier, which had been here for over 100 years. Today a fire started early and no-one could stop it.
I rushed down in my firemans outfit to see if I could help, but despite dozens and dozens of firemen no-one could stop it and now it´s just a heap of old black twisted metal.
I´m very sad and so is everyone who lives here. We rely on tourism and it keeps lots of people in work, and now they have no jobs.
My mum is upset and many people who have lived here all there lives were in tears.
There was one old lady who got married on the pier 63 years ago today, and she looked out of her window as she always does especially on her anniversary to see the place she got married and it wasn´t there any more.
It will take years and years to build it again, and there is nothing left. They could see the smoke miles and miles away.
So today I´m sad because I´m missing Absy and I´m sad for losing our pier and sad for everyone who lost their jobs. Its a sad sad day for a Wally today
At least no-one was hurt, thats one good thing .

It was so sad Mum even remembered you telling her about Weston Super Mud and she was looking out for Wally in his dashing fireman outfit.... he does looked very handsome!!! I love firemen Berty is in a little tub in the middle of the sea surrounded by sharks & heading towards Easter Island she about to to the next pic for the diary she posted one of him in the tub....

So sorry Wally! What a shame for you all. At least you go to show it to Absy, before it went up n flames.

You look grand in your outfit. I can´t believe that you couldn´t put it out. You look like the worlds best firedog!

I will miss the pier very much but I am glad that I got a chance to visit it before it was burnt down and that no one was hurt Any news on how it started?

Hello Wally, a very sad day indeed We watched it on the telly and our mum couldn´t believe that this wonderful piece of history was going up in flames

We saw it on the news, sad indeed, part of architectural hertage gone in flames
